There’s hardly any wrong place to buy in such a hot market. But here are seven locations around the state that offer some of the best options.
Hayden (Routt County)
Hayden is an appealing choice for families to buy real estate in Colorado who enjoy a year-round outdoor lifestyle. The peaceful community is less than 25 miles from the epic ski slopes of Steamboat Springs. Hayden has mostly newer homes, excellent remodels, some older single-family homes, and a few choice vacant lots to build a custom home.
Much of the state is booming, but Hayden has made it affordable for working families. According to the City of Hayden, the average cost of a single-family home is less than $300,000. The average single-family home in Hayden is three bedrooms, two bathrooms, about 1,700 feet of living space, and a one-and-a-half-car garage. Craig (Moffatt County)

Meeker (Rio Blanco County)
Meeker is a little off the beaten track and is somewhat isolated in the White River Valley. The county seat of Rio Blanco County has about 2,500 residents and many properties for sale. The farming community presents various rural lots suitable for ranching and living the country life to the fullest.
The town has an assortment of single-family homes that are affordable and well-maintained. North of Sulphur Creek Road on the east side of town is a row of attractive family homes. Meeker Elementary and Barone Secondary are in the east part of town, like the Meeker Recreation Center. Several newer upscale homes are west of Sulfur Creek Road, behind the entertainment complex.
Further north is homes west of Sulphur Creek Road across Sage Ridge Road. These homes are more secluded but are only minutes away from the city center. There are also some open spaces here for family gatherings or exercise. Sage Hills Park provides a fun and recreational activities for Meeker residents.
Delta (Delta County)
Delta County has vast farmlands, ranches, and estates. The county, and its town seat of Delta, offer a wonderful community for a rural lifestyle set against the backdrop of expansive Colorado skies. This could be an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to buy real estate in Colorado to try farming, ranching, or starting their own business. Delta County has several distinctive communities you can call home, such as Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Orchard City, and Paonia.
Most real estate in Colorado for sale in Delta County are in and around Delta or along Route 65 northbound from Delta through Orchard City to Great Mesa. Houses for sale in Greater Mesa are more secluded. Some prospective homeowners pick Crawford because of its proximity to Crawford State Park and its beautiful lake.
